小酒店里人声鼎沸，豪爽的澳大利亚人喝着本地酿造的酒，谈笑风生。突然，一把短刀**在柜台栏板上，接着一条鳄鱼竟然腾空窜入店内，休伊吓得跳起来，一头扑进老板娘的怀里。不料鳄鱼竟站了起来，掀掉头上的鳄鱼皮，原来是邓迪。他来到休伊面前，彬彬有礼地请她跳舞，惊魂未定的休伊不由自主地跟着他跳了起来。

第二天，邓迪带着休伊，由雷迪驾车进入丛林。在那里，邓迪施展着自己的丛林绝活，让休伊大开眼界。在小路上，一条大水牛挡住了去路。邓迪跳下车，用他特有的方法，竟然神奇地让水牛乖乖躺在路旁。

当晚，他们在丛林里过夜。抬头看着满天的星星，耳边听着各种虫鸣兽吼，休伊大有置身于仙境的感觉。然而，记者的职业习惯又促使她和邓迪探讨起政治问题。

清脆的**声划破了夜空，狩猎队开始捕杀袋鼠。整个丛林的袋鼠惊慌逃窜，无处藏身。邓迪套上一张袋鼠皮，对空发了一梭子弹。狩猎队长醉眼惺松地看到一只袋鼠居然能开**还击，立即掉转车头，狼狈逃窜。

休伊从大城市来到丛林，被大自然美丽的景色和清新的空气陶醉了。不过，大自然的生活有时也是可怕的：在河里洗澡会受到鳄鱼的袭击，睡觉时响尾蛇就在旁边游窜，大熊会随时来光顾你的晚餐，猎人的子弹不知什么时候会从树丛里飞来。每一次休伊都被吓得魂飞魄散，邓迪却在谈笑中掐死了毒蛇，赶走了鳄鱼。休伊对他越来越感兴趣了，决心把他带到大城市去见见世面，由此还可以撰文连续报道这个未受过教育和污染的人初次接触现代大都市的种种趣闻，这肯定是个大受读者欢迎的题材。

邓迪从没去过纽约，生性喜爱冒险的他一口答应了休伊，满心喜悦地随她来到这个豪华大都会。

然而，大都市并不像他想象的那么好对付。自动扶梯，熙熙攘攘的人流，流氓、 *** 、人妖接踵而至，一时搅得他穷于应付。他不知道，为他提行李的服务员久久不肯离去是因为他未给小费，他也不知道浴缸是干什么用的，弹簧床垫又使他感到极不舒服。

当天晚上，邓迪随休伊去餐厅吃饭，休伊的男友梅森对他百般嘲讽，邓迪并不急恼，依然谈笑风生，冷不防却猛然一拳将他击昏过去。休伊责怪他不该动粗。

休伊的父亲、报社老板查尔顿为欢迎休伊的归来举行晚会，特别邀请邓迪参加。自从有关邓迪的报道在报纸上连载以后，报纸的发行量急骤上升，使查尔顿十分兴奋。当晚，他要把邓迪介绍给上层社会的读者，以满足他们的好奇心。

富丽堂皇的大厅和豪华的布置使邓迪一时不知置身何处，他厌烦别人提出的愚蠢问题。为了弄清那位装束怪异的夫人是男是女，他毫不犹豫地一探究竟，惹得那位贵妇又羞又恼。他不耐烦一切繁文缛节，特别是当他听到休伊和梅森订婚的消息时，坐在那儿更觉得不舒服，于是干脆走出门外，要司机送他去酒吧喝酒。

看到这位黑人司机，邓迪认定他来自某个部落。在酒吧，他请每一个在座的人喝酒，自己也喝得酩酊大醉。回旅馆的路上，他们遇到一伙拦路抢劫的流氓。邓迪三拳两脚就把这些毛贼打得狼狈逃窜。

第二天一早醒来，邓迪自觉在都市已无事可干，便打点行李准备回澳洲去。休伊在晚会上不见了邓迪，心知他不痛快。在和邓迪相处的日子里，她对邓迪产生了好感。相反觉得梅森对她的百般殷勤另藏着一种含意。她打**给邓迪，想约他一起谈谈。房间里 *** 不断，却没人接**。她又问了服务台，这才知道邓迪刚刚结帐离去。

休伊跳上父亲的汽车，前往邓迪居住的旅店。门口的服务员告诉她邓迪的去向。休伊一言不发，拔腿就往地铁口追去。

正是早上上班的时候，地铁里人流如潮。邓迪背着自己那有限的行李，悠闲自得地进了地铁站，准备前往机场，飞回澳大利亚。

休伊冲进地铁，站在扶梯上四处张望，终于在人群里看到了邓迪。她大喜过望，高声呼叫邓迪。可是，地铁的轰鸣声、人群的嘈杂声盖过了她的声音。尽管休伊喊得声嘶力竭，邓迪却浑然不觉。无奈，她只好央求旁边一位乘客传话过去。于是一传二、二传三……终于传到邓迪的耳朵里。邓迪夹在人群中什么也看不见，听说叫他回去，便问什么事，于是这句话又一个一个传回来，传给了休伊。休伊大声说我爱他。这一下，人群沸腾了。邓迪想跳起来看传话的人，却怎么也看不见，只好拔拉着人群往前挤。热心的旅客把他抬了起来，从头顶上托过去，终于来到了休伊的身边。失而复得的心绪同时涌上两人的心头，他们紧紧地拥抱在一起。
